Report

The Irish Rugby Football Union introduced the All-Ireland League as a level above the Provincial Leagues in 1991-92.

Limerick Clubs dominated play during the first decade of the League, with Garryowen (1991-92 and 1993-94) and Young Munster (1992-93) winning the first three, before another Limerick club, Shannon, won four in a row from 1994-95 to 1997-98.

The AIL then introduced a knockout Top Four Playoff system in 1998-99.
