Final: Blue Demons 82 Leixlip Zalgiris 60

Blue Demons game plan of forcing Leixlip out wide and into taking mid-range shots worked, as Zalgiris’ shots would not drop into the basket for them. The match started at a fast pace, and with MVP Liam Carmody proving invaluable on both offense and defence the Blue Demons were 22-17 up at the end of the first quarter. Eight points in the first minute of the second from the Blue Demons forced Leixlip into an early time out to steady the players, and the match remained close until the third quarter, with Blue Demons going in 16 points to the good at half-time. The Blue Demons would eventually build up a 77-51 lead, before closing out the match 82-69 winners, to retain the National Intermediate Cup Competition. Ryan murphy’s fast break at the end of the first quarter and Shane McCarthy’s accurate shooting at the start of the second gave the Cork side the cushion they would keep for the rest of the game, despite the best efforts of Romas Eidukas, Marius Kasperavicius and Kestutis Damulevicius for Zalgiris.
